Detailing, done right — at your door

Hail, chinooks, and 1,045 metres of sunshine

Calgary sits in hailstorm alley, and the last few summers have made that abstract fact very concrete. The storm that crossed the north and northeast of the city on August 5, 2024 produced more than 130,000 insurance claims and became, on CatIQ's one-year update, the costliest hailstorm in Canadian history and the second-costliest natural disaster the country has recorded. Detailing does not undo a dent. That is paintless dent repair, and it is a different trade with different tools. What detailing does address is what hail leaves behind after the bodywork is done: clear coat chipped through to primer along the hood edge and roof rails, micro-fractures in the paint film that let water and chloride get underneath, and interiors that took on water through a broken quarter glass and were shut up damp for a week. Getting a hail-scarred panel properly decontaminated and sealed before winter is the difference between a cosmetic history and a rust history.

Then there is the chinook, which makes Calgary's winter uniquely hard on a car in a way most people here have never had explained to them. A chinook arch can pull the city from minus twenty to plus ten inside a single day, and it does that dozens of times a season. Every one of those swings takes the salt and brine sitting on your undercarriage and puts it back into solution, lets it work into seams and pinch welds, then freezes it there. Edmonton's cars sit in a dry deep freeze; Calgary's cycle wet and cold, over and over, from the same amount of road treatment. Residential streets get a pickle mix of sand and salt, which is why Calgary windshields collect chips and rocker panels collect stone strikes at a rate that surprises people who moved here from the coast. Summer is the mirror image. The city sits at roughly 1,045 metres and is one of the sunniest places in Canada, and thin dry air plus that much UV is exactly what cracks a dashboard, chalks black plastic trim and oxidizes a red or black clear coat well before the odometer says it should.

Operationally, Calgary is friendlier to a mobile van than most Canadian cities its size. The inner-city grid — Inglewood, Ramsay, Bridgeland, Marda Loop — is laced with paved back lanes, and a lane behind a detached garage is a genuinely good place to work: level, out of traffic, not taking anybody's permit spot. The newer communities are easier still, with front-attached garages and driveways deep enough for two vehicles across Tuscany, Panorama Hills, Aspen Woods, Mahogany and Cranston. Two things worth checking before you assume. A great many of the newer southeast and north communities carry a homeowners association encumbrance registered on title, with architectural and use guidelines attached, so read yours rather than guess. And when the City declares a Snow Route Parking Ban — the blue signs with the white snowflake — the restriction can hold for up to 72 hours and ends in a tag and a tow, which takes those blocks off the board entirely until it lifts.

When "clean" isn't the goal — correction and coating.

Off the same vans, our senior technicians take dedicated slots for multi-stage paint correction and ceramic coating — at your Calgary address. This is a separate appointment with its own timeline, for owners who want depth of gloss and years of protection, not a wash.

Booked into premium slots and quoted after a paint assessment. Ask when you book and we assess the paint before quoting.

Calgary neighbourhoods we serve

The inner-city grid and its back lanes — Beltline, Inglewood, Ramsay, Bridgeland, Hillhurst-Sunnyside and Marda Loop — through the established southwest around Altadore, Killarney and Glenmore, out to Aspen Woods and Signal Hill in the west, Tuscany and Varsity in the northwest, Panorama Hills and Sage Hill up north, and the southeast lake communities of Mahogany, Auburn Bay, Cranston, McKenzie Towne and Seton. Elsewhere in the Calgary region, the same van reaches Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks and Chestermere.

Our guarantee in Calgary

No reviews to show you yet. Here's what we promise instead.

We're earning our first Calgary reviews right now, and we'll only ever publish real ones — named, local, verbatim. Until then, judge us by the standard every job runs on.

Photo-gated checklist

Every package ends with a documented checklist — the crew photographs the result before they leave your driveway. Done means checked, not eyeballed.

Miss a point, we return free

If any checklist point isn't right, tell us through your booking and we come back to redo it at no charge. No arguing, no inspection visit first.

Nothing charged until it's done

Your card is charged when the job is finished and checked, not before — larger bookings take a small deposit, shown before you confirm. That's the whole idea behind the name — consider it done.

Calgary questions

Asked often in Calgary, answered plainly.

No, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you something. Dent removal is paintless dent repair, a separate trade. What detailing does address is everything hail leaves behind after the bodywork: clear coat chipped through to primer on hood edges and roof rails, micro-fractures in the paint film that let water and chloride underneath, glass with impact haze, and interiors that took on water through broken glass and were closed up damp. Getting a hail-scarred panel decontaminated and sealed before winter is the difference between a cosmetic history and a rust history.

The City's position under Stormwater Bylaw 37M2005 is that you may use only water to clean your car, that soaps and detergents are prohibited substances under the bylaw — including biodegradable ones — and that the car must not be excessively soiled. The City publishes a substantial specified penalty for soap on the street, and it points residents to commercial facilities because those drain to the wastewater treatment plant rather than to the Bow. A Done Detail van reaches the same destination: everything is reclaimed on site and goes to sanitary sewer. Nothing runs toward a catchbasin.

It is normal for Calgary specifically. The city sits at about 1,045 metres and gets more bright sunshine than just about anywhere else in Canada, and thin dry air means high UV load with almost no humidity to buffer it. That combination hardens and shrinks dash plastics, chalks black exterior trim and oxidizes clear coat years earlier than the same car would show in Vancouver or Toronto. It is preventable rather than reversible — UV protectant on interior surfaces on a real schedule, and a sealant or coating on the paint, not a wax that flashes off in the first hot week.

Yes, and this is the underappreciated difference between Calgary and Edmonton. Edmonton's cars sit in a long dry freeze where road treatment is largely inert. Calgary swings from minus twenty to plus ten and back dozens of times a season, and every one of those swings puts the salt and brine on your undercarriage back into solution, lets it migrate into seams and pinch welds, then refreezes it there. More cycles means more corrosion, from the same amount of salt. It is the strongest argument for a thorough undercarriage flush in early spring rather than waiting for the paint to look bad.

In the lane, most of the time. Calgary's back lanes are one of the better working environments in the country for this — paved, level, out of traffic, and not competing with anyone's permit. The van is fully self-contained, carrying its own water and power, so nothing runs from your house. Worth flagging when you book: whether your lane is a garbage collection route on that day and whether your block sits inside a Calgary Parking Authority permit zone, because both change where we set up.

If your booking depended on the street, yes. A declared Snow Route Parking Ban restricts those blue-sign routes for up to 72 hours and enforcement goes as far as a tag and a tow, so nobody works from that curb. A driveway or back lane appointment is unaffected. The City usually gives a day or two of advance notice, so if a ban lands on your window, move the booking online rather than hoping the plow runs early.
