What paint correction actually is
Paint correction is measured, staged machine polishing. We read the paint depth first, then cut only as much clear coat as the defect needs and no more — swirls, wash marks, oxidation and light etching come out because the surface around them is levelled, not because something has been painted over them. It is finished by refining the polish until the gloss is real rather than temporary.
What it will not do
Correction cannot bring back clear coat that has already failed, and it will not touch damage that is through the paint rather than in it. Deep scratches you can catch a fingernail in need paint, not polish. We say which is which at the assessment, before any money changes hands.
Why it matters in Austin, TX
Austin attacks a car from above and from inside. Summers run to long stretches of triple digits, and the damage is UV damage — clear coat hazing on the hood and roof first, dashboards cracking along the top edge, black plastic trim going gray, and leather drying out where the sun lands through the side glass on every afternoon crawl up MoPac. Cedar season follows: Ashe juniper releases from December into February and coats everything in a fine pollen that gets pulled straight into the cabin filter, which is why so many Austin drivers find their allergies worse in the car than at home. Oak catkins drop in March and stain light paint. The water is hard, so a driveway wash at three in the afternoon dries into mineral spotting that etches a hot panel before you can towel it. This is Flash Flood Alley, and one storm off the Balcones Escarpment leaves a film of limestone-silt road grime on everything. Lovebug flights in spring and early fall plaster the front end on I-35 and 183. And anyone who parks near the Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk learns what bat guano does to a warm hood.
Where the work happens
Austin's neighborhoods differ enormously in how workable they are. Mueller was laid out with alley-loaded garages behind the houses, which is close to ideal: off-street, out of sight of the front curb, room to work. Circle C, Steiner Ranch, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville are conventional wide-driveway suburbs — easy, with the usual HOA covenants worth checking. Hyde Park, North Loop, Travis Heights, Bouldin Creek and Clarksville are 1920s-and-earlier lots: short driveways, narrow streets, enormous live oaks, and in several of them a residential permit parking district where an unpermitted van gets a citation rather than a warning. Downtown, Rainey Street and the Domain are tower territory — clearance bars, valet decks, and no realistic route for a service van to a resident space, so the work happens at a loading zone or an open surface bay. East Austin infill is its own case, with tandem parking pads, shared drives and streets where two cars can't pass. Employer lots are the reliable fallback: the Domain, the north Austin tech campuses and the airport corridor all have surface parking that suits a workday appointment.
Premium paint work needs more time and better light than a standard detail, so where the vehicle sits matters more than usual. A garage or covered bay is ideal; we will tell you at the assessment if your spot will not do the paint justice, rather than working around it and charging you for the result.

Local rules we work to
Austin is the clearest of any of these cities, and it publishes guidance aimed at exactly this service — the City's own page for wastewater disposal by power washers and mobile car washes. The rule: under Article 5 of Chapter 6-5 of the Austin City Code, power washing and mobile car wash wastewater may not be discharged into the storm sewer if it contains pollutants or cleaning compounds and has not been treated before returning to the environment. Where it may go instead is governed by Chapter 15-10: collected and transported to a private fixed-site facility connected to the City's sanitary sewer collection system, with a discharge permit application on file and appropriate pretreatment such as a sand and oil interceptor or a grit trap. Hauled wastewater may not be dumped at the City's Approved Receiving Station, or into cleanouts, manholes or toilets, unless the site is permitted and properly equipped. Unauthorized discharge is a violation of Chapter 15-10, a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a daily fine per violation, enforced through Austin Water's Utility Compliance Services Division. The van's practice — reclaim everything it uses, dispose to sanitary sewer only, never to a storm drain — is built for precisely this regime.
How a job runs
- Assessment first. We look at the paint — depth readings, what the defects actually are, whether the clear coat can take correction at all.
- A quote against what we found, not a package price. Correction and coating are quoted together, because doing one without the other rarely makes sense.
- Staged work. Cut only as far as the defect needs, then refine.
- Protection last, over paint that is ready for it.

Premium paint work is quoted after we have seen the vehicle. Send us the car and where it is kept and we will tell you what is realistic — including when the honest answer is that a standard detail would serve you better.
