Columbus is deceptively hard on cars, because the damage here does not arrive dramatically. It arrives as film. Central Ohio winter is a slush season rather than a snow season, and the arterials get pre-treated ahead of nearly every forecast event, so what accumulates from December to March is a grey chloride haze on the lower doors, across the tailgate and baked into the glass where the wipers never sweep. Nobody panics about it the way they would about a snowbank, and that is exactly the problem — it sits in the seams and does its work quietly. Freeze-thaw then cracks the pavement into the pothole season that shows up every February, and the grit and loose patch that follows gets thrown into wheel arches and along rockers. By the time April comes, a car that has never been in a real storm is carrying a winter's worth of chemistry.
Spring swaps one problem for another. Maple and oak pollen turns a dark car chalk-green in a couple of days, and because it is mildly acidic, the harm is done by the ordinary sequence of a shower followed by a warm afternoon — it bonds rather than rinsing away. Layered on top is dust that nobody accounts for. Dublin, Powell, Westerville, Hilliard and Gahanna are wide-driveway, three-car-garage country, with the only real complication being association covenants that restrict visible work in a front setback — read yours before you book, not after. German Village, Clintonville, Olde Towne East and Victorian Village are the alley neighbourhoods, where the rear lane approach is the operational question and a neighbour parked across the lane is the thing most likely to derail it. Downtown and Short North residential decks are the third case, where ramp clearance under seven feet keeps a service van out and the car has to come up to street level. Wherever it happens, the van will bring its own water and power and leave with the dirty water, bound for sanitary sewer rather than for a curb inlet a short pipe from the Olentangy.

That will usually work, but the details matter more here than anywhere else in Columbus. What decides it is where the van can stand within hose reach — normally the alley apron in front of your garage, on brick that is not always level — and German Village alleys are narrow, sometimes shared, and often blocked by a neighbour's car. Note in the booking that you are in the historic district, whether the alley is shared, and whether there is a hydrant or utility easement on it, and the slot will be planned around that.
Late February into March, once pre-treatment has stopped for the season. Washing in January feels productive and mostly is not — the arterials are re-treated within days and the film is back before the car has dried. The exception is the undercarriage: a car that lives on I-270 or SR-315 is worth flushing once during a mid-winter thaw, because a warm wet week is when chloride does its fastest damage to brake lines and seams. Expect the second half of the problem right behind it, too — pothole season opens in February, and the loose patch and grit that comes with it lands on a car that has just been cleaned.
You can, but pick your neighbourhood honestly. On a game day the Olentangy River Road, Lane Avenue and SR-315 corridors near Ohio Stadium become effectively impassable for hours, and Grandview Heights, Harrison West and the University District absorb the overflow parking. A booking in Dublin, Westerville or Gahanna the same day is unaffected. If you are inside the game-day ring, an early-morning or Sunday slot is the sane choice.
Not from this van. Wash water is reclaimed on site and disposed to sanitary sewer, which sends it to treatment rather than to open water. That is the specific thing the Columbus sewer use code is concerned with at sections 1145.80 through 1145.89 — that what goes into a storm sewer be stormwater and nothing else — and a curb inlet in Clintonville or Franklinton is a short pipe from the Olentangy or the Scioto.
Worth it, but the order of work matters here. April is central Ohio's overlap month: a winter's chloride film is still sitting in the seams and on the glass while maple and oak pollen is already landing on top of it. Cleaning the pollen off a car that still has brine underneath is backwards. The April job is to strip the winter first, decontaminate, and then put a protective layer down — after which the next shower carries pollen away instead of letting a wet morning and a warm afternoon bond it into the clear coat. A plain wash will be undone by the weekend; that sequence will not.
Usually no. Residential decks downtown and along High Street commonly post ramp clearance under seven feet, which excludes a service van. The workaround is bringing the car up to street level or an open top deck if the building allows it. Put the building name and the posted clearance in the booking notes so it can be planned around in advance.
