What ceramic coating actually is

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to the clear coat and cures into a hard, slick layer. It is not a wax and it is not a sealant — it lasts years rather than weeks, sheds water rather than beading briefly, and makes the paint far easier to keep clean. It goes on last, over paint that has already been corrected, because a coating locks in whatever is underneath it.

What it will not do

A coating does not fill scratches, remove swirls or hide etching — it seals the surface as it finds it. That is why correction comes first, and why we assess before quoting rather than selling a coating to paint that is not ready for one.

Why it matters in Dallas, TX

Hail first. The Metroplex sits in the middle of Hail Alley, Texas leads the nation in hail damage, and claims concentrate from April through June. Beyond the obvious dents and starred windshields, hail micro-fractures clear coat and leaves impact rings that only become visible under direct light once the paint has been properly cleaned. Where the work happens

DFW is the easy end of the spectrum for a mobile service. Detached and attached garages, wide driveways and generous curb space are the norm across Lake Highlands, Preston Hollow, Lakewood, Richardson, Plano, Frisco, Southlake and most of Arlington and Fort Worth, and there is no posted street-sweeping regime to schedule around the way older, denser cities have. Two complications matter. The first is HOA covenants in the master-planned northern suburbs, some of which restrict vehicle maintenance or repair visible from the street; detailing is not repair, but covenant language varies enough that it is worth reading your own rather than assuming. The second is towers — Uptown, Victory Park, Las Colinas and downtown Fort Worth put residents in podium or subterranean garages behind clearance bars and valet decks, where a van cannot follow the car down, so the car has to come up instead. Heat is its own access question: an unshaded driveway at two in the afternoon in August is a genuinely bad working surface, because hot paint flashes water and product before either can be worked. A garage or an early slot produces materially better work, not just a more comfortable one.

Premium paint work needs more time and better light than a standard detail, so where the vehicle sits matters more than usual. Dallas addresses this head-on. The city's stormwater drainage ordinance makes it an offense to discharge, or to cause the discharge of, any water that does not consist entirely of stormwater into the stormwater drainage system, into waters of the United States, or into state water. Vehicle washing is named rather than implied: commercial vehicle washing facilities, including car washes located on office building premises or inside parking garages; vehicle washing, cleaning or maintenance at dealerships, rental agencies, body shops and repair facilities; and the washing of business, commercial or public service vehicles by anyone operating more than two of them. The one relief written in is for the temporary car wash a civic group, school, or religious or other nonprofit organization runs, and it is framed as a defense to prosecution rather than a general exemption. Allowable non-stormwater discharges track the federal list, and at state level Texas rules set out which stormwater runoff and non-stormwater discharges are permissible; Dallas operates under a TPDES MS4 permit administered by the TCEQ. Worth knowing that the Metroplex is not one jurisdiction: Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Plano, Frisco and Southlake each have their own ordinance and their own MS4, so the governing rule follows the address rather than the metro. The van's practice would be identical at every one of those addresses, and it is not a gray area — wash water captured on board and disposed to sanitary sewer, never to a curb inlet.
