Paint Correction in Los Angeles, CA

Machine polishing that removes the defects in the clear coat rather than filling them in.

What paint correction actually is

Paint correction is measured, staged machine polishing. We read the paint depth first, then cut only as much clear coat as the defect needs and no more — swirls, wash marks, oxidation and light etching come out because the surface around them is levelled, not because something has been painted over them. It is finished by refining the polish until the gloss is real rather than temporary.

What it will not do

Correction cannot bring back clear coat that has already failed, and it will not touch damage that is through the paint rather than in it. Deep scratches you can catch a fingernail in need paint, not polish. We say which is which at the assessment, before any money changes hands.

Why it matters in Los Angeles, CA

The damage here is UV, minerals and ash rather than corrosion. Year-round sun load fades and chalks clear coat on horizontal surfaces and dries and splits dashboards, door tops and leather — considerably worse in the Valley, where Woodland Hills and Sherman Oaks run past 105 degrees for stretches of summer, than on the Westside under the marine layer. June Gloom leaves a damp, gritty film rather than a clean rinse. Hard Southern California water is the sleeper problem: timed irrigation oversprays street-parked cars nightly across Silver Lake, Mar Vista and half the Valley, and the mineral deposit etches into clear coat once the sun hits it, which is what ring-shaped white spotting on a car parked outside here usually turns out to be — soap will not remove it. Long dry seasons mean road film accumulates for months, then the first storm lifts it and redeposits it as an oily haze across glass and paint. Coastal blocks near Playa del Rey, Venice and San Pedro carry marine salt air. And wildfire ash — as in January 2025 across the Palisades and Eaton burn areas — is both abrasive grit and strongly alkaline: it scratches if dry-wiped and turns caustic and etches once morning dew activates it.

Where the work happens

Los Angeles splits sharply. Single-family neighborhoods — most of the Valley, Highland Park, Westchester, Mar Vista — are close to ideal: driveways, shade, curb space for the van. Density is where it gets specific. Koreatown, Palms and much of the older Westside apartment stock runs tandem parking, where one resident's space sits directly behind another's, so the car in front may need to be moved before work can start. Subterranean garages downtown, in Century City, Marina del Rey and the newer Playa Vista buildings post clearance bars low enough to exclude a service van outright; surface decks and street-level spots are the workaround. Street sweeping is posted block by block by the Bureau of Street Services and is actively enforced, so the posted hours decide what times a block is workable at all. Permit parking districts across the Westside and the Eastside restrict where a van can sit, though a legally parked van nearby is enough. HOA and gated-community covenants in the hillside and master-planned pockets vary, and are worth reading before assuming driveway work is permitted.

Premium paint work needs more time and better light than a standard detail, so where the vehicle sits matters more than usual. A garage or covered bay is ideal; we will tell you at the assessment if your spot will not do the paint justice, rather than working around it and charging you for the result.

Local rules we work to

Los Angeles has an unusually explicit rule about exactly this kind of work, which makes it one of the few cities where sloppy mobile washing is a named violation rather than merely bad practice. Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 64.70 — Stormwater and Urban Runoff Pollution Control, specifically 64.70.02 (Pollutant Discharge Control) and 64.70.03 (Elimination of Illicit Discharges and Illicit Connections) — prohibits discharging untreated wastewater from mobile commercial operations, and untreated wash water from gas stations, auto repair garages and other automotive facilities, into the storm drain system, absent a separate or general NPDES permit. LA Sanitation administers a Mobile Washer program under the same framework and directs mobile operators to capture wash water and route it to the sanitary sewer rather than to a storm drain; the county-wide MS4 permit sits with the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board. The van is built to do the opposite of what the ordinance prohibits: wash water is reclaimed on board and disposed to sanitary sewer, never to a storm drain or a gutter.

How a job runs

  1. Assessment first. We look at the paint — depth readings, what the defects actually are, whether the clear coat can take correction at all.
  2. A quote against what we found, not a package price. Correction and coating are quoted together, because doing one without the other rarely makes sense.
  3. Staged work. Cut only as far as the defect needs, then refine.
  4. Protection last, over paint that is ready for it.

Premium paint work is quoted after we have seen the vehicle. Send us the car and where it is kept and we will tell you what is realistic — including when the honest answer is that a standard detail would serve you better.
