What paint correction actually is

Paint correction is measured, staged machine polishing. We read the paint depth first, then cut only as much clear coat as the defect needs and no more — swirls, wash marks, oxidation and light etching come out because the surface around them is levelled, not because something has been painted over them. It is finished by refining the polish until the gloss is real rather than temporary.

What it will not do

Correction cannot bring back clear coat that has already failed, and it will not touch damage that is through the paint rather than in it. Deep scratches you can catch a fingernail in need paint, not polish. We say which is which at the assessment, before any money changes hands.

Why it matters in Orlando, FL

Central Florida is a sun-and-water climate with two insect seasons, and each one hits a different part of the car. The sun is the constant: ultraviolet here runs high year-round, and Orlando parking is famously uncovered — theme park lots, office lots, apartment lots, all open sky — so cars bake for eight and ten hours at a stretch. Horizontal clearcoat on roofs, hoods and trunk lids goes first, headlight lenses haze yellow, black trim chalks, and dash tops and door-card uppers craze. Then the water: this is the most lightning-prone corridor in the country and summer brings near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, so a car washed at noon is covered in dried spotting by four, and rain landing on a hot panel evaporates in place and leaves its minerals behind. Spring is oak pollen — live oak and laurel oak drop enormous quantities of yellow-green pollen and catkins from February through April across College Park, Winter Park and Delaney Park, and the moment the afternoon storm hits, that powder becomes a paste. Lovebugs arrive twice a year, roughly May and September, and the I-4 corridor is where they collect on your front clip; as the remains decompose they turn acidic and will etch clearcoat within a day or two on a hot bumper. Inside, this is a theme park town, and the specific damage is sunscreen — it transfers off skin onto leather and vinyl seats and stains them semi-permanently. Add melted candy, spilled drinks, lake water off the Butler Chain and salt and sand from Cocoa Beach and New Smyrna, where cars are driven onto the sand.

Where the work happens

Central Florida is close to ideal territory for a mobile van, because it is overwhelmingly suburban and overwhelmingly detached. Dr. Phillips, Windermere, Waterford Lakes, Avalon Park, Hunter's Creek, Oviedo, Winter Garden, Lake Mary and most of Lake Nona are attached garages with wide driveways, and the huge apartment communities in Metrowest, Millenia, Avalon Park and Lake Nona have open unassigned surface lots with room for a van to set up without blocking anyone. Three complications. Baldwin Park and parts of Lake Nona are new-urbanist with rear alley-loaded garages, which works fine but on narrow alleys where a van has to be placed thoughtfully rather than parked anywhere. The older core — Thornton Park, Lake Eola Heights and Delaney Park — has brick streets, tight setbacks and short driveways, so the working position needs confirming in advance. And downtown high-rise condos around Lake Eola put their parking underground behind clearance bars that a service van cannot pass, so those appointments run from a visitor stall outside the deck or a loading zone arranged with the building. Several master-planned communities, Windermere, Dr. Phillips, Baldwin Park and Celebration among them, have covenants that restrict commercial vehicles or vehicle work in driveways; that is between the resident and the association, but it is better resolved before booking. Office parks in Maitland Center, Lake Mary and Heathrow, Lake Nona Medical City and Central Florida Research Park near UCF all make good at-work appointments, since those cars are already sitting in uncovered lots all day.

Premium paint work needs more time and better light than a standard detail, so where the vehicle sits matters more than usual. Local rules we work to

Verified in substance, with one honest caveat about wording. City of Orlando Code Chapter 31, the Stormwater Utility Code, makes it unlawful to drain, deposit, place or otherwise discharge into any natural outlet or stormwater system within the city any organic or inorganic matter that causes or tends to cause pollution — petroleum products, oil and grease are named explicitly. Chapter 31 also restricts washing streets, buildings, sidewalks and parking areas: the substance is consistent across sources — visible debris and sediment must be removed before washing, only water may be used, and visible discharge must be prevented — but the exact phrasing differed between the summaries I could reach, and Municode blocked direct access, so the precise subsection should be pulled from the code before anyone quotes it verbatim. Orlando is an MS4 permittee and Orange County runs the countywide stormwater pollution prevention program. Statewide, FDEP publishes Recommended Best Management Practices for Mobile Vehicle Washing, which sets out four wastewater disposal routes and treats zero-discharge closed-loop recycling, and collection with discharge to a municipal sanitary sewer with utility approval, as the workable ones. Separately on water use, St. Johns River Water Management District rule 40C-2.042 sets year-round irrigation limits for Orange County — two days a week, and no watering between 10am and 4pm — but hand watering with a shut-off nozzle is permitted any day at any time; Orange County's Water Watch program patrols for violations and issues a warning followed by fines. The van's method is the closed-loop route: it brings its own water instead of drawing from your tap, reclaims all of it, and disposes to sanitary sewer under whatever approval the local utility requires, arranged per market before booking opens.
