What ceramic coating actually is

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to the clear coat and cures into a hard, slick layer. It is not a wax and it is not a sealant — it lasts years rather than weeks, sheds water rather than beading briefly, and makes the paint far easier to keep clean. It goes on last, over paint that has already been corrected, because a coating locks in whatever is underneath it.

What it will not do

A coating does not fill scratches, remove swirls or hide etching — it seals the surface as it finds it. That is why correction comes first, and why we assess before quoting rather than selling a coating to paint that is not ready for one.

Why it matters in Tulsa

Tulsa hands a vehicle three separate problems and they arrive in a fixed order. Spring is hail and wind — Oklahoma has ranked among the top states in the country for hail damage claims for over a decade, and Tulsa County sits squarely in it. Midtown — Maple Ridge, Swan Lake, Brookside, Florence Park — is largely detached houses with alley-loaded rear garages, so a van can set up off the alley rather than blocking a narrow street; because it brings its own water and power, nothing has to come out of the house, which matters when the nearest tap is on the far side of the garage. South Tulsa and the suburbs of Jenks, Bixby, Broken Arrow, Owasso and Sand Springs are wide-driveway, attached-garage subdivisions, which is the simplest possible working case: level concrete, room on all four sides, and a vehicle that is not going anywhere for a couple of hours. Newer subdivisions on the Owasso and Bixby edges carry HOA covenants worth checking if the work is visible from the street. The constraint is downtown: the Blue Dome, East Village and Arts District blocks are surface lots and structured decks, and several of the newer residential buildings have parking-deck clearance too low for a van, so those addresses suit an open lot or a workplace better. Office parks along the Creek Turnpike and around 71st and Memorial are good candidates for at-work service, because the car sits still for eight hours anyway and nobody has to give up an evening. Apartment complexes with unassigned parking are the awkward case — there is no reservable space, so the vehicle needs to be moved to an agreed spot before the appointment.

Premium paint work needs more time and better light than a standard detail, so where the vehicle sits matters more than usual. Local rules we work to

Tulsa is unusually clear on this point, and the city says it in its own words. The Stormwater Quality Section of the Streets and Stormwater Department publishes guidance on outdoor washing which states that discharging anything other than stormwater into the storm sewer system is prohibited, with fines and possible imprisonment attached — and then, for anyone assuming a car is covered by the general outdoor-washing advice, adds the sentence "This does not include the cleaning of the outside of vehicles." The city's own page carves vehicle washing out of scope rather than waving it through, which is a good deal more explicit than most municipalities manage. That is also the office to ask about a particular street or a particular inlet. What a self-contained van does instead is simple and checkable: it brings its own water, reclaims all of it on site, contains it, and takes it to sanitary sewer. Nothing goes into a Tulsa storm inlet, over a kerb, or into the Arkansas River by way of a grate.
